The Valley of the Mother of God is owned and operated by The Church of Virgin Mary and St Athanasius in Mississauga since 2007. It was operated by the Eastern Catholic Church prior for many years serving the Ukrainian Church community.
The church of Virgin Mary and St. Athanasius serves one of the largest congregations of Coptic Orthodox Christians outside of Egypt where its mother church is located. The church serves over 2500 families in Mississauga and the surrounding area.
The church was founded in 1978 by H.H. Pope Shenouda III and has grown its services since then.
The church now falls under the guidance of H.G. Bishop Mina, the Diocesan Bishop of Mississauga, Vancouver and Western Canada. His Grace Bishop Mina was enthroned in Mississauga, ON on Sunday, April 7th, 2013 and in Vancouver, BC on Sunday, April 13th, 2013.
The church of Virgin Mary and St. Athanasius has been served by Father Angelos Saad since September 1989. The Canadian Coptic Centre and new church and facilities were completed in 1998.
